Australian health practitioners volunteering in the Pacific continues
AVI has supported another two new Australian health volunteers travelling to the Solomon Islands as part of an Australian government funded medical partnership project.
Since 2015, 49 volunteers have been deployed to the National Referral Hospital (NRH) in Honiara to support medical education and system-strengthening programs.
Maddie Ezard, from Melbourne, (pictured left) has become the fourth volunteer to step into the Intern Training Program Coordinator role, responsible for ensuring medical graduates enjoy a seamless pre-vocational education before they obtain their medical registration. Maddie’s role focuses on governance, administrative support, intern performance management, and general course coordination. Her 10-month assignment began in May 2023.
Dr Greer Weaver, a GP Anaesthetist from Gove, NT, (pictured left) is volunteering as the project’s first Anaesthetics Intern Supervisor and provides clinical as well as formal teaching support for the trainee doctors as they rotate through the Anaesthetics Department. Her five-month assignment began in April 2023.
AVI would like to thank Dr Ella Tracey, Paediatric Intern Supervisor, on the conclusion of her nine-month assignment working with the NRH Paediatric team. In addition to her many other achievements, Dr Tracey was able to update and revise the Neonatal Standard Treatment Manual for the hospital, a document that will help standardise clinical practice for future neonatal care.
