NAIDOC Week: Keeping the fire burning

For NAIDOC Week our Australian and international teams were invited to attend a presentation by Gurang / Quandamooka woman Kaylah Tyson and Gunai Kurnai woman Claire Hyett, from the First People’s Assembly of Victoria.

The First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria is the independent and democratically elected body to represent Traditional Owners of Country and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Victoria.

The First People’s Assembly believes that when it comes to Aboriginal communities, Aboriginal people are the experts. That’s why they have created a Treaty negotiation framework that will directly empower Aboriginal Communities with the ability and tools to come up with practical solutions at a local level.

Later this year they will be sitting down with the Victorian Government to negotiate a state-wide Treaty.
